Emily
Jenks,
founder and director of Rockland School of Ballet,
(formerly known as North Atlantic Dance Studio--founded
in 1997), has been teaching ballet, tap, and jazz
to all ages in the mid-coast area for 20 years.
Emily started her ballet training at age 5 in Vienna,
Virginia. She later studied ballet, jazz and modern
dance at the McLean School of Ballet (now known as
the McLean School of Ballet and Jazz) in McLean, Virginia,
under Molly Vick. Emily also trained with the Erickson
(modeling) Agency and is a former model with Model
Management of Potomac, Maryland. Emily continues to
further her dance education through dance teacher
workshops, including the dance teacher workshop with
Finis Jhung in New York City, Leap n Learn dance teacher
workshops in New York City and Burlington, Vermont
with Beverly Spell, and the Dance Teacher Conference
in New York City, master classes, ballroom dance lessons,
and Afro-Caribbean dance. Emily is a member of the
‘National Dance Association’, the ‘American
Association for Health, Physical Education, Recreation
and Dance’, the ‘American Association
for Health Education’, the 'National Association
for Sport and Physical Education' and is a member
of the ‘Maine Dance Teachers Club’.
Emily has taught dance styles from around the world
to grades K-6 for the Rockland Area Arts Academy and
has taught dance theater movement for Lincoln Street
Center’s ‘Act Now Theater Camp’.
Miss Emily has a strong reputation as “the people’s
dance teacher” for her dedication to providing
a fun-filled dance experience for children in a positive,
safe, educational and nurturing environment. Rockland
School of Ballet also has an exciting, educational
and fun DanceCamp
program in the summer months. Currently all classes
and DanceCamps are conducted at the Lincoln Street
Center for Arts and Education.
